January is Poverty Awareness Month—a time to reflect on the hidden struggles faced by families in our community and the importance of working together to break the cycle of poverty.
Living in a community of relative affluence, it’s sometimes difficult to imagine that poverty is all around us. In Texas, 1 in 10 families live below the poverty line, with nearly 1.6 million children facing food insecurity. Long-term studies also show that children raised in poverty are five times more likely to remain poor as adults unless they receive crucial support and intervention. Breaking free from poverty is about more than finding temporary relief—it’s about overcoming systemic barriers, lack of resources, and limited opportunities.
Access to education and skill development is crucial. Programs that offer job readiness training, and other workforce opportunities enable individuals to secure better-paying jobs and achieve financial independence.
How You Can Help
At CCA, our wrap-around services support the ‘two-generations’ approach, while addressing immediate needs and equipping individuals for long-term success. Here’s just a small example of what our clients have free access to:
- Client Choice Food Pantry
- Education and Empowerment Courses (Computer Literacy, ESL, Job Readiness)
- Professional and Spiritual Counseling
- Child-Focused Programs (Kids Eat Free, Back to School)
We’re proud of the impact these programs make, but real change requires community. By giving, volunteering, or sharing our mission, YOU can help families build brighter futures.
