CCA operates a medium-sized, fully stocked grocery store for
low-income families in the 46 communities CCA serves. The pantry
assists over 550 families each week and is the primary and first
response to the financial challenges presented by families in
distress. Clients are counseled to reserve household income for
rent, utilities, childcare, health needs and other basics of life. Our goal is to provide for 65% of the food needs of the impoverished
citizens in our community.
Food and money are donated by individuals, churches, schools,
organizations, businesses and corporations. Financial gifts are used
to purchase groceries from the North Texas Food Bank at the bargain
rate of 14 cents per pound. Volunteer groups sort, price and stock
incoming donations and serve as cashiers, baggers, and aides who
assist customers with shopping and loading of their vehicles. |
A major challenge to this service is the need to offer a variety
of product choices. CCA currently needs: diapers, baby food, personal
hygiene products, household products, paper products, boxed meals,
canned meat, fresh produce and canned vegetables.
